Material Exploration | Part 1

What happens when you are only allowed to use exactly 4 squares and you have to portray different elements of design?

Well this was the description of this assignment, and this is my interpretation of how it looks like using just 4 squares. Not to mention the squares only measure in 4cm x 4cm.

Order and Chaos

For order I arranged in a neat fashion, while for chaos I just ripped 4 black squares and randomly paste them all around. Chaos reminds me of broken glass haha.

Direction and Increase

Direction is created using the squares cut into arrows and they are arranged in a way they show  direction. Increase is self-explainatory.

Tension and Tight

Tension is designed in a way it represented a string being pulled in both direction till the middle part has the highest potential energy. In tight, it is like a hallway where the further you go, the tighter it gets. Clever, eh?

Congested and Free Flow

For congested it is kind of a funny story. Whenever I think of congested I think of traffic jams, so I modeled it to look like a traffic jam. The bottom left can be seen two bars, this two bars represents two idiots who is changing lanes without using their turn indicators (based on a true story).  This is to further emphasize interpretation of congested, which in turn in a traffic jam. For free flow instead, I folded the squares into mini airplanes where they are flying freely, hence the free flow lol.
