Intro to ID - Project 1(b): 2D Abstraction ~ Part 1

After completing the relief model of the insect, its time to go abstract! The word I despise so much yet I have to embrace it since I am a designer. Don't judge me of why I hate that word, its because I am a logical person, meaning everything I do must be organized and have a logical construct to it. Anyways back to topic, time to abstract my insect!

It is a bit hard for me to do this assignment, like I said above, but still I managed to create the four examples as shown below. The designs also needs to have keywords that is inspired by the insect as well.

Abstract Design 1

I create this design based on the flight path of the hornet. As we all know, the hornets are basically bullies in the insect world, and their primary prey is the honeybee hive. After much research I realized that the hornet always sends one scout ahead, the rest will follow. Therefore, the design below shows how the hornets fly on their way to a hive. I wanted to represent how the hornets are dangerous, therefore I represented them with sharp edges.

Keywords
- Flight Path
- Hornet Attack

Abstract Design 2

Okay, I can't deny the expectation of this piece. For this piece I tried going full out abstract and couldn't really understand what I drew. FORGIVE ME LECTURERS! ;-;

Keywords
Unknown

Abstract Design 2

Abstract Design 3

I was inspired by the wing shape of the hornet for this design, and I arranged them to be like blade-like shapes to represent danger. For some unknown reason it ended up looking like an architecture building.

Keywords
- Dangerous
- Sharp

Abstract Design 3

Abstract Design 4

For the final design it is somewhat connected to the first design, but I changed it to be inspired by the eye shape and the jaw of the hornet.

Keywords
- Knife Blade
- Jaw

Abstract Design 4

Okay it is kinda obvious I screwed this assignment up. I didn't fully understand what the lecturers wanted and pretty much jumped way to far ahead into the assignment. I thought that the 2D and 3D part of the assignment is connected as it whatever I draw for the 2D part is going to be built as a 3D model. But thank god my lecturers said it was okay (praise the lord) and I had to go to the next part of the assignment, which can be found here.
