Non-traditional Letter

We were given a side-assignment from Mr. Choy to create a non-traditional "love" letter. Why a love letter? A letter itself is boring, so the love letter is supposedly created with non-artsy materials like pens and markers, along with our emotions embedded into it. My letter needs to have the word 'BELIEVE IN YOURSELF' as I have chosen it a week ago.

I was frustrated for a few days thinking on how to create an artwork that will stand above all the rest, and will really blow my lecturer's mind. Then one night, I scrolled my photo album on my iPhone to look for ideas and I came across my old photoshop work. This was made when we first met Tina, hi Tina! during semester 1. There was like a photoshop war that time. By the way, check out Tina's blog here https://blabxajournal.wordpress.com

So yeah, unexpectedly this particular masterpiece became the inspiration of my "love" letter. This is also a great idea since I am using my very own face, it is more personal and is a great idea to introduce myself. So the idea is to spell out the word with my faces, and to further mind-f*ck my audience the background will also be made completely out of my face.

Time to begin work.

I first took a picture and photoshopped out the background, leaving just my "beautiful" face.

Since this is going to be a very complicated project, I had to make a mock up in photoshop too see how many faces I had to make and print.

Final mock product.

Yes. It is a whopping 94 faces I had to cut.

Time to print and cut!

It took me around 12 hours plus doing the whole thing. I was about to lose my sanity cutting out the faces. The finished artwork is seriously creepy, and the longer you look, the more of me you see. Forget the motto 'Believe In Yourself', more like 'The More You Look, The More You See'.

The final product.

I hope you like my finished product. See you in the next post guys!
